The temple originated during the Ayutthaya period. At the fall of Ayutthaya, Chao Khum Yai fled the Burmese troops with families of his guard by boat to Pik Bot Pier (Na Kluea). He also took a temple bell from Ayutthaya and restored the originally abandoned Wat Nong Yai. A prayer hall and belfry were built. After that, the temple was rebuilt again on 3 January 1906 and was granted the temple status and area on 24 March 1969.
